A Choral Ensemble for Singers in/around East Boulder County, Colorado
The Coal Creek Community Chorus is a vocal ensemble open to residents in and around Louisville, CO (including the communities of East Boulder County and Erie) who love to sing and are passionate about making exciting, beautiful music together. Rehearsing only once a week, the CCCC is designed to accommodate people from around the area who seek an expressive and musical outlet to round out their busy lives. The chorus is open to performing music of all styles, including classical, folk, jazz, spirituals, world music, Broadway, and contemporary pieces. There is no audition to join, and sheet music and rehearsal tracks will be provided for all members to practice their parts at their convenience.
- Rehearsals are Mondays at the Boulder Valley Church of Christ (270 76th St, Boulder, CO 80303) from 6:45pm-7:45pm on:
- August 27, September 10, September 17, September 24, October 1, October 8, October 15, October 22, October 29, November 5, November 12
- There will be a performance on November 14 or 15 (TBD).
- Enrollment is $185 per member (which includes materials fee). You can pay this fee by credit card immediately upon registering. A $25 late registration charge will be added for members who do not complete their registration by September 10.

Meet the Director

The Coal Creek Community Chorus sings under the direction of Stephen Ross
Stephen Ross is a singer, teacher, arranger, conductor, songwriter, and composer residing in Louisville, Colorado.
Soon after moving to Colorado from Winnipeg, MB, Canada, Stephen got his start singing in the Colorado Children’s Chorale. Throughout high school, Stephen was active in theater and choir.
Stephen attended the University of Colorado at Boulder in the fall of 1999 on a vocal performance scholarship. In working with world class mezzo-soprano Julie Simson, he was a finalist for the Anderson Scholarship Voice Competition in 2000 and 2001, and won the award in 2002. While at CU, Stephen founded the a cappella group BufferZone, and acted as music director and arranger throughout his tenure in the ensemble. Under the tutelage of Dr. Larry Kaptain and Dr. Leila Heil, Stephen received his Bachelor of Music Education with a Vocal Emphasis in 2003.
From 2003 through 2015, Stephen was the Choir Director (and eventual Fine Arts Department Co-Chairperson, and Visual & Performing Arts Academy Coordinator) at Skyline High School in Longmont, CO. As a high school choir director, Stephen directed five choirs and taught Voice Performance, Music Technology, and Beginning Guitar. His choirs received regular scores of “I - Superior” in multiple competition settings, and hundreds of students under his tutelage were accepted into The St. Vrain Valley Honor Choir, Colorado All-State Choir and Colorado All-State Jazz Choir. As a choral clinician, he has directed the Adams County 14 Choral Festival Mixed Choir in 2006, the Northern Colorado Honor Choir Men’s Choir in 2009, the Patriot League Honor Choir and the Jefferson County Women's Choir Festival in 2013, and was an adjudicator for the CHSAA Show Choir and Jazz Choir Festival, in 2007 and 2015, and the Colorado West Invitational Music Performance Festival in 2017. In the spring of 2008, Mr. Ross won the Outstanding Teacher Award for all of Skyline High School. In 2010 and 2014 he was elected by the student body of Skyline to deliver the commencement address at graduation.
Stephen is a member of the vocal band Face (www.facevocalband.com). Since joining Face, the group has released seven albums, and won many awards including Rocky Mountain Harmony Sweepstakes champions and National Harmony Sweepstakes runners-up in 2005 and 2007, Best Band that Plays the ‘Burbs by the Yellow Scene in 2009, and the coveted Best Local Musicians from the Boulder Weekly in 2009, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. Face appeared on the series premier of NBC’s “The Sing Off” in December of 2009 where they tied for seventh place. Face has performed all over the United States and Europe, and recently headlined a benefit concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre where they raised over $30,000 for music education in Colorado schools.
Stephen is also a highly sought after contemporary a cappella arranger, having completed arrangements for middle school, high school, college, amateur, and professional vocal groups around the world.
Outside of music, Stephen cherishes all the time he can get with his beautiful supportive wife and three kids.
